Marci Murphree- Teacher, former dancer, and owner of Second Story Studio for dance, yoga and related arts.

Marci is a veteran teaching artist for ArtSmart, the T.P.A.C. Education Program and teaches creative movement/dance for University School of Nashville.

She was trained in ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance from age 5 and examined and certified to teach in 1975 by Chicago National Association of Dance Masters and in 1977 by Southern Association of Dance Masters. Immediately hired at most excellent private dance studios, Marci continued to develop as a dancer and teacher, mentored by such reknowned local teachers as Donna Carver, Albertine Maxwell, Anne Muller, and Donna Rizzo. She traveled extensively to study with some of the most well-known master teachers in the country, including Bill Evans & Company, Billy Siegenfield, Terrell Paulk, Gus Giordano, Ruth Currier, Finis Jhung, Marta Renzi... and the list goes on.

Marci was a founding member and featured dancer with the acclaimed modern dance company Tennessee Dance Theatre for 12 years. She performed in a variety of musical theater productions at Nashville Children's Theatre, Chaffin's Barn and toured the East Coast with Mind's Eye Performance Group, performing and conducting classes in many colleges during the company's stay. She has served on many dance faculties, including ten years with Vanderbilt Dance Group, fifteen years with Metro Parks dance program and spent many summers choreographing the musicals for W.O Smith Community Music School Camp. She's choreographed an assortment of traditional and original musicals and concert dance work, including Fiddler on the Roof at Austin Peay University; Guys & Dolls at The Renaissance Center, Dickson; The Glory Bugles. Nashville, and most recently an experimental modern dance piece for University School's high school class..

Marci attended MTSU as a theater major for 2 years and worked alongside the late Ruth Sweet with Nashville's former conservatory, The Acting Studio, and later with Jill Massie's Dramatic Arts Studio developing her own curriculum for Stage Movement. She created the popular Musical Theater Workshop, a successful musical theater training program for pre-teens and teens, coordinating classes with many working actors, singers and dancers in Nashville. Many of her students have gone on to performing arts programs in college and careers in the arts and entertainment field.

From 1995-2005, as Artistic Director of LifeWork Productions, Marci produced, wrote and directed an average of 100 shows each year in schools and public events across Middle Tennessee. The professional shows utilized a diverse group of professional entertainers addressing important social and personal issues like diversity, self-esteem, adolescent stress and family issues in creative ways that were well-received by children and educators alike.
